Hunt Blessing

Many foxhunts open their formal hunting season with the Blessing of the Hounds, which I insist on calling the Hunt Blessing, because it's not just the hounds that get blessed. The blessing is extended to the riders, the horses, and even the fox (in absentia).

After the hounds are blessed, it's the riders turn. Below, in a photo taken at one of our local hunts in 1996, Rt. Rev. Don Wimberly (then bishop of the diocese of Lexington) places a medal around my neck, as he does for each rider.

Here's a newer and closer view of me being blessed by Rev. Madden in 1999.
