Rivendell is located in western Bourbon County, Kentucky, USA, between Paris and Georgetown, just outside the thriving metropolis of Tatertown. I moved there in 1987, after living in Ohio for 9 years, and built a house in 1988-89, which is where I currently reside with my 2 horses, Shadowfax (left) and Arthur (center); and 2 dogs, Norm (foreground) and Chowder (visiting the horses). (The horse on the right, Little, is now deceased).
For those of you who don't recognize the names Rivendell, Frodo, and Shadowfax, they're from J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings. For those that do recognize them, I have to admit that I'm really not that much of a Tolkien fan; I never made it all the way through the trilogy. But it is a neat source of names.
I realize this isn't a very flattering picture of the beasts in the mud, but I liked the laid-back atmosphere of the horses lying peacefully with the dogs wandering among them. I doubt if I'll ever get a chance to take a similar picture under cleaner conditions.
